Golf at the Waldorf Astoria Golf Club

The Waldorf Astoria Golf ClubToday started with a nice round of golf at the Waldorf Astoria Golf Club which is on the Disney property, but not owned by Disney. It got a lot of good reviews so I decided to play it. There were plenty of courses in the area to play, but I didn't want to drive too far.

The greens fee was reasonable, just over $100.00. The club house was very nice and everything was first class. This course was definitely worth the money. It was a bit windy which made club selection very tricky but the course was in great shape, and the greens were still pretty fast and smooth, even after being recently over-seeded for the winter.

The temperature was a nice 78 degrees and it was mostly sunny. Other than my score, which was somewhere in the 80's, it was fun round of golf.

After golf it was back to the lodge to get Julie for some lunch and then off to EPCOT.

EPCOT

It's been about 10 years since Julie and I have been here and many things have changed, so we were eager to visit some of our favorite spots and see all the new attractions. But first we had to see if the old tickets that we had were still good. We had tickets that we think had some days left on them as park hopper passes, but we weren't sure until we visited a theme park and have them verify it.

So we take the shuttle over to EPCOT and visit the ticket booth and find out that indeed we do have three days on our tickets. So we go into EPCOT for the rest of the day.

It was nicely not that crowded and the weather good and it was just in the low 70's. For the most part, EPCOT looked pretty much the way we left it, but looks were deceiving. One attraction after another were different. The first was Spaceship Earth, the iconic silver sphere at the entrance. The outside was the same, but the ride inside was completely different. It wasn't worse, it was just different.

The biggest change, and somewhat of a disappointment, was the restaurant in Japan. There used to be a nice Tempura bar where chefs made fresh Tempura dishes right in front of you. It was the best food. Well it's gone now, replaced by a more traditional Japanese restaurant, along with the other Teppan Yaki restaurant. We ate there anyway and the food was good, but it wasn't the same.

Even though it was fairly light with the crowds, there were still long waits for some of the good rides like California Soaring (45 minutes), and some others. So we didn't get to see some of the better attractions, but we've been on them before so it wasn't that big a deal to miss them.

To be back at EPCOT was nice but I feel as though I'm theme-parked out for some time. Overall we had a good time today and it was great to visit EPCOT again. Tomorrow is another Disney day.
